The Story behind CryingOutCloud Art
Even as a child, I loved nothing more than painting. From university onwards, my passion took a back seat - “always too busy, always more important things to do”. Until my health and a couple of life-changing events put a spanner in the works for various reasons. I had to reflect on what is really important to me and what takes my energy - and what gives me energy.
I couldn't believe the healing powers I discovered in the process of painting. Since then, I've been painting every spare minute I have in addition to my job as a diversity trainer and head of department in an educational context.
The motifs of my paintings are mostly related to the themes of feminism, identity, chronical illness, marginalization, empowerment and diversity - and the rollercoaster rides of life associated with them. One main focus of mine is representing women* who inspire me, whose stories have left a mark. I don't directly paint those women*, but the feeling they evoke in me.
Being a huge lover of the 80s and 90s, you may find bright colours, references and incredibly beautiful songs framing my Instagram posts :) You may also find references to my multicultural background. Colourful melancholy!
Depending on the mood, I paint very different motifs and with varying color schemes. Even though it is often said that you should stick to one style and focus, I paint whatever I feel like and particularly enjoy a wide variety. I preferably use acrylic paints, pencils, oil pastels, ink and ballpoint pens.
I'm happy if I can accompany you on your own rollercoaster with my paintings (or postcards, magnets and bookmarks available via Instagram) or create a colourful mood in your home!
All the best, Marta
